Memorable Manitobans: William Lindley “Bill” Whetter (1911-2009)

Cleric.

Born on a farm at Dand on 26 January 1911, third of four sons of Jacob Clinton Whetter (1884-1925) and Annie Alberta Hodgson (1882-1972), in 1955 he was ordained as a minister in the United Church of Canada. He served at churches in communities around Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and northwestern Ontario, including Starbuck United Church and Ferndale United Church. On 3 July 1943, he married Frances Gertrude Dobbyn (1909-2017) at Melita and they had three daughters. He died at Winnipeg on 19 October 2009.
