Memorable Manitobans: George Dyer Weaver (1908-1986)Engineer, soldier, MP (1949-1953), MP (1953-1957). Born at Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on 16 September 1908, son of G. D. Weaver and Laura Harriet Fullerton, he attended Royal Military College (Kingston) then became a metallurgical engineer. He served in the South African Army from 1942 to 1944, Lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals from 1944 to 1945. Defeated as a candidate for the Churchill constituency in the 1945 federal election, he was elected in 1949 and re-elected in 1953, but was defeated in 1957. He died on 7 May 1986.
