Born at Elgin, Scotland on 19 June 1885, he came to Canada in 1912. He was widely known in agricultural circles as Editor of Canadian Farm Implements and Canadian Blacksmith and Welder for Stovel Press and Sanford Evans Publishing until retirement in 1957. He was Secretary of the Manitoba Wholesale Implements Association for many years. He died at the St. Vital Hospital on 9 June 1970 and was buried in the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
