Memorable Manitobans: John Albert Stevenson (1848-1879)
Farmer, MLA (1878-1879). Born in Scott Township, Ontario on 29 February 1848, son of Irish immigrants Robert and Jane Stevenson, he was educated at the local public school. A farmer, he served a single term in the Manitoba Legislature, representing the Pembina constituency, in the 1878 general election. He died at his mother’s residence, unmarried, on Margaret Street in Winnipeg on 6 August 1879 and was buried in the St. John’s Cathedral Cemetery.
