Memorable Manitobans: George Cecil Speers (1886-1958)

Educator.

Born in the RM of Woodworth on 2 January 1886, son of Esther Jane “Essie” Thomlinson (?-1926), he taught at Ninga School (1909) and Elkhorn School (c1910) then received an MA degree from the University of Manitoba. He taught at Cupar, Saskatchewan (c1918), Redberry, Saskatchewan (c1921), and was Principal of Sanford School (1924-1926). On 26 June 1918, he married Octevia Cook (1888-1975) at Winnipeg. He died on 14 December 1958.
