Memorable Manitobans: Thomas William “Tommy” Siers (1896-1979)

Aircraft engineer.

Born in Yorkshire, England on 13 May 1896, son of Arthur Siers and Anne Thornes, he came to Canada and, in 1938, developed an oil dilution system that helped aircraft to start in cold temperatures. He was recognized for this innovation in 1967. He and wife Ethel Edmondson (1892-1988) had at least one child. He died at Vancouver, British Columbia on 20 May 1979.
