Memorable Manitobans: Adelina Lauzon Roy (1886-1977)

Hotelier, community activist.

Born at Winnipeg on 6 August 1886, daughter of J. B. Lauzon and Adeline Henry, she and her family owned and operated the Roblin Hotel for many years. She was one of the founding members of Sacred Heart Church, and also a founding member of the Society of the Ladies of St. Anne. She organized pilgrimages, one of which was to St. Anne des Chenes, an annual event she faithfully attended much of her life. Roy helped to raise funds for many charitable organizations, such as St. Joseph’s Orphanage, St. Patrick’s Parish, Sacred Heart Parish, and many others. She died at Winnipeg on 7 February 1977 and was buried in St. Boniface Cemetery.
