Memorable Manitobans: Maurice Walter Peleshok (1922-2013)Educator. Born at Tolstoi on 18 August 1922, son of Stephan Peleshok (1880-1929) and Mary Mushaluk (1897-1994), he grew up at 24-1-5E, completed schooling, and attended Normal School. He taught in rural districts, including as Winnipeg Falls South School (1946-1950 & 1954-1959; Principal 1946-1950), Rossdale School (1950-1954, Principal), Donald School (1959-1963, Principal), and Rosser Village School (1963-1964, Principal), before joining the Winnipeg School Division, where he taught at Isaac Newton School (1964-1969). He retired in 1988, having worked for 43 years in Manitoba classrooms. He played baseball with the “Hungry Nines” and was a member of several curling squads. He married fellow teacher Nonnie [Nonie/Nonna] Panchuk and they had a daughter. He died at the Maples Personal Care Home in Winnipeg on 31 August 2013.
