Memorable Manitobans: Cecille San Cartier Lanthier Paterson (1923-2017)

Make-up artist.

Born at Port Arthur [now Thunder Bay], Ontario on 28 September 1923, daughter of Marie and Peter San Cartier, she lived for a time at St. John's, Newfoundland where she married John Paterson. She studied for a time at the Ontario College of Art at Toronto. She later studied with make-up notables such as Eddy Sanz in New York and Perc Westmore in Hollywood with whom she honed her skills as a television make-up artist and specialized in the use of prosthetics in TV make-up. This led to a long career at CBC, starting in its inaugural year in 1954. She was head make-up artist at CBC Winnipeg until her retirement in 1985. She was inducted into the CBC Wall of Fame at the CBC building in Winnipeg on 15 June 2012. She died at Winnipeg on 1 December 2017.
