Memorable Manitobans: Chrys Pappas (1943-2022)
Born at Winnipeg in 1943, one of two sons of William “Bill” Pappas (1914-2001) and Isabel Kelekis (?-1996), he was educated at Kelvin High School, United College, and the University of Manitoba. He was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1968 and practiced corporate and commercial law with the firms of D'Arcy and Deacon (?-?) and Thompson Dorfman Sweatman (1989-?). He was made a Queen's Counsel (1989).
He was a Bencher (1974-?) and Life Bencher (?-2022) with the Law Society of Manitoba, President of the Manitoba Bar Association (1984-1985), and President of the Canadian Bar Insurance Association (?-?). He was a director of Special Olympics Manitoba and the Winnipeg Football Club, Board Chair of Balmoral Hall School, and a Regent of the University of Winnipeg.
He and wife Kaye Dunlop had four children. He was a member of the Winnipeg Squash Racquet Club and St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
He died at Winnipeg on 11 December 2022.
