Memorable Manitobans: Andrew “Clair” Murray (1925-2014)

Businessman.

Born at Lyleton on 26 February 1925, his family moved to Souris in 1926 where his father operated a garage. During the Second World War, he served in the Royal Canadian Navy. On his return from military duty, he opened an automobile dealership in Souris in partnership with his brother Ewart, beginning a nearly 70-year association with the automotive industry. In 1960, he purchased Brandon Automobiles Ltd. in Brandon and moved his family there, which eventually became the basis of the Murray Auto Group that operated numerous car dealerships across Western Canada. He died at Brandon on 21 November 2014, survived by his wife and four sons.
