Journalist.
Born in Scalloway, Shetland, Scotland on 9 October 1866, son of Lawrence Moncrieff, for many years connected with Hudson’s Bay Company’s service at York Factory, and of Ann Moncrieff. He came to St. Andrews as a boy in 1875, and was educated at Winnipeg. He commenced a career as a clerk with the HBC at St. Francois Xavier. Moncrieff was apprenticed to a printer at Rat Portage [now Kenora, Ontario] in 1883, and later helped found the Winnipeg Daily News. He bought the Winnipeg Sun and in 1890 became first news editor of the Winnipeg Tribune. He served as Managing Editor of the Tribune from 1903 to 1920, and then as Associate Editor from 1920 to 1936. He married May Blyth in 1888 and Minnie Blyth in 1896. He had a son and two daughters. He was soloist and choirmaster at Augustine Church from 1906 to 1925, and was first President of the Winnipeg Oratorio Society in 1907. He died at Winnipeg on 11 April 1939.
