Memorable Manitobans: William Craig “Bill Mac” McNamara (1904-1984)Civil servant, senator. Born at Winnipeg on 8 August 1904, son of Margaret Craig, he worked with the Standard Bank of Canada (1923-1924) and the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool (1924-1942). He joined the Canadian Wheat Board in 1942 and served as its Assistant Chief Commissioner (1947-1958) and Chief Commissioner (1958-1969). He was appointed to the Canadian Senate in 1970, sitting as a Liberal representative of Manitoba, and served until 1979. He died on 12 April 1984.
