Dentist.
Born at Rothsay, Ontario on 15 November 1870, tenth of twelve children born to James McLachlan (1826-1898) and Sarah Ballantyne (1838-1917), he attended public schools of Wellington County and the Harrison Collegiate Institute. He taught school for three years then entered the Royal Dental Collegiate at Toronto, graduating with first class honours in 1897 and receiving the DDS degree. He practiced dentistry at Burlington, Ontario for three years before moving to Carman in January 1900 where he continued his practice until retirement in 1949.
In 1903, he married Lucy Jane Gordon (1879-1958) of Goderich, Ontario. They had no children. He was a member of the Albert Carman Methodist Church and was the Superintendent of its Sunday School for 17 years. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows, Carman Horticultural Society, and Carman Tennis Club (President). He died at Carman on 9 September 1951 and was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery.
