Psychologist.
Born at Winnipeg on 18 June 1948, one of three children of Norman McCabe (?-1986) and Lilllian May “Lil” McCabe (c1921-1990), as a child he went Camp Robertson for inner city children. The experience instilled a life-long interest in helping others. After attending St. Johns High School and Sisler High School, he received a BA degree from the University of Winnipeg then an MEd degree and PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Manitoba.
During his early working life, he worked for a number of social service agencies. After receiving his doctorate, he worked at the University of Manitoba, first as a counsellor at Student Affairs and later as a Professor of Education, specializing in counselling psychology.
He was married twice, first on 17 February 1973 to Ionna Thiessen with whom he had a daughter. In 1990, he met broadcaster Sylvia Kuzyk and they spent 33 years together until his death. As a singer songwriter, he performed at numerous public events, including the Winnipeg Folk Festival and Whoop & Hollar Folk Festival at Portage la Prairie.
He died at Winnipeg on 14 August 2023.
