Estate manager.
Born at the Red River Settlement in 1825, eldest son of George MacBeth and Catherine Sutherland of Kildonan, Sutherlandshire, he accompanied his family east to Upper Canada in 1838. Shortly after, he began to work for Colonel Thomas Talbot, gradually becoming his business manager and later heir to half his estate, which was not a popular move with the family. With his inheritance he built a large house called Bleak House in London, Canada. He was involved in politics, the militia, and most of the business activity of the London region.
