Memorable Manitobans: Joseph Albert Lousley (1870-1962)

Cleric.

Born at Peterborough, Ontario on 24 May 1870, he graduated with a degree of Theology from Victoria College in Toronto then served in Manitoba missions before and after his Methodist ordination at Brandon in 1900. He was a minister at the Zion Methodist at Napinka (1900-1902), Norway House Residential School (c1913-1916), Treherne, and Brandon (7 years). As the past President of the Methodist conference in Manitoba, he led the congregation into formation of the United Church of Canada. Before retirement in 1940, he served as Neepawa, Arden, and Carberry then came out of retirement to serve at Lakeview United Church for several years.

He and wife Effie Amelia Wikinson (1873-1955) had four daughters and three sons. He died at Waterloo, Ontario on 2 January 1962 and was buried in Springcreek Cemetery at Mississauga, Ontario.
