Businessman.
Born at Winkler on 2 September 1915, he became a partner in the family farm of A. A. Kroeker and Sons in 1936, who were pioneers in the production of corn and seed potatoes in Manitoba, serving as President and Chairman. In 1957, he was a founding director of what is now known as Golden West Broadcasting Limited, which operated several radio stations in the prairies. In 1960, he was one of the founding directors of CJAY (later CKY-TV), also helped to launch the ZP-30 radio station in Paraguay and working with the National Religious Broadcasters. He held leadership roles in the Vegetable Growers’ Association of Manitoba and the Manitoba Vegetable Producers’ Marketing Board. He served on the Canadian Horticultural Council. Kroeker was considered an expert on tariff issues and served on the International Trade Advisory Committee. He was also a member of the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation. In recognition of his community service, he received a Manitoba Golden Boy Award (1966), a Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal (1977), an honorary life member of the Vegetable Growers’ Association of Manitoba (1980), and was inducted to the Order of Canada (1989) and Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame (2000). He died on 1 September 2000.
