Memorable Manitobans: Nancy Harryman Klippenstein (1930-2016)

Community activist.

Born in Elmwood on 23 March 1930 to Florence Louise May Foster and William Brazier Harryman, she grew up in East St. Paul. She married William “Bill” Klippenstein (c1926-1964) and they had a son.

She worked at the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) tuck shops, Sooters Studios, and started the “See If You Can” program at CNIB where she taught school children. She advocated for the blind with the CNIB where she served as President of the Manitoba Division and was a National Board representative. She won multiple awards over the years which included the CNIB Award of Recognition Medal and Citation. Other than her work she also loved travelling, knitting, listening to the radio and television, reading books, and working at her church.

She passed away at Winnipeg on 8 September 2016.
