Educator.
Born in Russia on 20 September 1886, son of Abraham Klassen and Elizabeth Hebert, he immigrated to Canada in 1902. He took teacher training, potentially as late as 1911 and also farmed at Rosthern, Saskatchewan (1916). He spent some time in the United States around 1919. Returning to Manitoba, he was Principal of Rivers School (1920-1921) and Medora School (1921-1922). His career in education spanned 35 years, also teaching in Saskatchewan until retirement in 1946. He married Mary Runge (c1897-?) and they had four children: Alvina Klassen (1913-?), Mary Bertha Klassen (1915-?, wife of ? Schmidt), Wilfred Klassen (c1919-?), and Ethel Elizabeth Klassen (1923-?). The couple divorced some time between 1923 and 1931, and he retained custody of their children. He retired to British Columbia around 1958 where he settled at 765 Arden Road in Metchosin around 1960. He died there on 16 October 1963.
