Memorable Manitobans: Won Kyum Kim (1929-2015)Research scientist. Born at Ham Heung, Korea on 7 May 1929, he completed post-secondary studies at Seoul National University and the University of North Carolina. He came to Canada in 1961 and became a Canadian citizen in 1970. He worked for over 40 years as a research scientist, specializing in molecular biology and plant genetics. He founded the Korean Association of Manitoba and the Korean Heritage Language School. In recognition of his community service, he received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012).
