Alexander G. Harris and sister of Percy Dewart Harris) who he married on 28 July 1909. He was ordained in Manitoba in 1916 and returned to China in 1917 where he managed a school and did accounting work at the Canadian Press. On returning to Canada in 1924, he took a Bachelor of Pedagogy degree at the University of Toronto.

He served successively as the pastor at Tilston Methodist Church (c1924), Moore Park Methodist Church (?), and Knox United Church at Roblin (?-1933).
