Memorable Manitobans: Nicholas Frederick “Fred” Kasian (1913-1996)
Born at Winnipeg on 21 September 1913, son of Frederick Theodore Kasian (1889-1967) and Helen Jackin (1889-1979), his family moved to Transcona in 1915. He attended the University of Manitoba and received BSc and BEd degrees. He was the Principal of Eriksdale School (1939-1940) but spent most of his teaching career in Transcona where he was the Principal of Westview School (1957-1958), Transcona Central School (1958-1964), Arthur Day Junior High (1961-1967), and John W. Gunn School (1969-1975). He retired from teaching in 1975. He and wife Margaret “Peggy” Burgess Rodger (1914-2001) had two sons. He died at Winnipeg on 8 December 1996.
