Farmer.

Born in Scotland in 1832, he immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1847, eventually settling at Forest, Ontario. He married there and had ten children. At the urging of a childhood friend, the family with seven of their children and spouses headed west in 1878 and homesteaded one of the first quarters in the Austin-Sidney area. Through the years, he and four of his children homesteaded several quarters in the immediate area. When it was time to build a school, he named the district Forestville after his Ontario home. He died at home on 20 February 1908 and was buried in the Austin Cemetery along with his wife and several of his children.
