Memorable Manitobans: Robert Marvin “Bobby” Hull (1939-2023)Hockey player. Born at Point Anne, Ontario on 3 January 1939, his 23-year career in professional hockey included stints with the Chicago Blackhawks (1957-1972), Winnipeg Jets (1972-1979), and Hartford Whalers (1979-1980). He was the first NHL player to score more than 50 goals in a single season. His hockey legacy was tarnished due to reports of domestic abuse, racism, and alcoholism. In recognition of his exemplary performance on the ice, he was inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame (1983), Manitoba Order of the Buffalo Hunt (1989), and Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame (1989).
