Memorable Manitobans: John Christie Hicks (1856-1917)Born in Ontario on 4 July 1856, son of Wellington Hicks and Cecelia Hicks, he worked as a carpenter before coming to Winnipeg where he built a number of residences and apartment blocks. On 23 January 1878, he married Angelina Davidson (1856-1938) at Carleton, Ontario and they had two children: Percy Davidson Hicks (1883-1965) and Evelyn Agnes Hicks (1897-1995). He was found unconscious on the steps of his Winnipeg home, 848 Warsaw Avenue, and died at the Winnipeg General Hospital on 4 December 1917. He was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
