Memorable Manitobans: John George Hartmier (1875-1949)Born at Owen Sound, Ontario on 23 May 1875, he came to Manitoba and worked as a building contractor, moving to Yorkton, Saskatchewan around 1941. He and wife Annie Athiska (1884-1959) had five children: Ernest George “Ernie” Hartmier (1904-1989, husband of Edith Beulah Watson), Irenea Caroline Hartmier (1907-?), Robert John Hartmier (1909-1972, husband of Laura Winifred Gordon), ? Hartmier (1918-1919), and William Hartmier (1921-?). In later years, he resided at Kelowna, British Columbia, where he died on 4 June 1949. Some of his construction work in Manitoba included:
