Memorable Manitobans: Haldor Haldorson (1875-1951)Born in Iceland on 27 January 1875, son of Haldor Goodmundson and Gudrun Jonson, he attended normal school and business college at Copenhagen, Denmark then moved to Australia. He came to Canada in 1907 and worked as a building contractor at Winnipeg until moving to California in 1925. He retired from business in 1927 and returned to Winnipeg in 1933, moving to Victoria, British Columbia around 1941. On 21 December 1909, he married Laura Larsen (1885-?) at Winnipeg and they had five children before divorcing: Haldor Peter Haldorson (1910-1973), Gudrun Dorothea “Dorothy” Haldorson (1911-?, wife of ? Doolan), John Julius Haldorson (1914-?), Dora Haldorson (1916-?, wife of ? Robinson), and William Paul Haldorson (1917-?). He was a member of the Viking Club of Winnipeg. He died at Victoria, British Columbia on 18 February 1951. Some of his construction works in Manitoba included:
