Memorable Manitobans: Ronald Thomas Habel “Ron Able” (1951-2009)

Radio personality.

Born on 27 February 1951, son of Roland Habel, he grew up in Montreal. His radio career spanned 40 years and took him to Halifax, Vancouver, and Montreal before he settled in Winnipeg in 1984 to become the morning show host on KY58 from 1984 to 1995, and on QX104 from 1996 to 2008. He was known for his tireless dedication to charitable causes such as the Children’s Hospital, the Canadian Diabetes Association and World Vision. Ron was also an accomplished nature and wildlife photographer and aviation enthusiast.

He died at Winnipeg of pancreatic cancer on 13 February 2009.
