Memorable Manitobans: Loftus John Greene (1846-1913)Born at Harlem, Ontario on 18 April 1846, he came to Winnipeg in 1880 and was one of the city’s most well-known building contractors. He and wife Frances Jane Davis (1850-1940) had six children: Eva E. Greene (1878-?, wife of R. J. Hoyhoe), Joseph Harold Greene (1879-1965), Roy L. Greene (1883-?), Harriette Alma Greene (1891-1975), John Greene (1892-?), and Edward Boyce Greene (1894-?). He died at his Winnipeg residence, 137 Sherbrook Street, on 19 January 1913 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
