Educator.

Born at Gretna on 10 August 1915, son of Peter H. Giesbrecht (1882-1925) and Katharina [Katherine] “Gina” Penner (1882-1966), he attended teacher training, graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BA (1952) degree, and became an educator.

He was Principal of Osterwick School (1939-1942), Exeter School (1942-1943), Schoenwiese School (1944-1945), Elgin School (1954-1955), and Sperling School (1955-1958), after which he joined the staff of the Fort Garry School District where his service included tenure as Principal of Pembina Crest School (1958-1968) and as Librarian at Viscount Alexander School (1970s-1980). He retired from the Fort Garry School Division in 1980.

In retirement, he was the Manager of Sunset House (Senior Citizens Home), a founding member of Home Help Project, and member of the Christan Investors in Education, and the First Mennonite Church (30 years). While teaching at Schoenwiese, he first met - and worked with - fellow educator Justina “Jessie” Dyck (1922-2004). On 27 July 1946, they were married at Springstein and together had three children.

He died on 20 December 1990 and was buried in the Brookside Cemetery.
