Memorable Manitobans: Harry Ford (1870-1954)

Investment banker.

Born in England on 22 May 1870, son of George Edward Ford and Emma Serine, he came to Canada as a boy and was educated at Toronto, Ontario. In 1882, he joined the investment firm of Osler and Hammond at Toronto and came to Winnipeg in 1906 to join Osler Hammond and Nanton. During the First World War, he was secretary of the Manitoba General Committee on Victory Loans. He became a director of the company in 1924. He served as President of the Winnipeg Stock Exchange (1923-1925, 1929-1930). He retired from business in 1947.

In 1897, he married Emma Gertrude Burgess (?-1947) at Toronto and they had two children: ? Ford (wife of L. T. Porter) and George E. Ford. He was a member of the Manitoba Club, St. Charles Country Club, St. George's Society, and Manitoba Industrial Development Board.

He died at his Winnipeg home, 279 Yale Avenue, on 24 July 1954 and was buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery at Toronto.
