Educator, historian.
Born at Port Arthur [now Thunder Bay], Ontario on 28 May 1932, daughter of C. S. “Jack” Jackson and Kay Boon, she grew up at Ignace, Ontario. After high school, she took commercial training and, after working for two years, taught business education at Gimli Collegiate. There, she met fellow teacher John Alan Dyck and they were married on 17 July 1954. They lived successively at Carman, Dominion City, Morris, and Sanford before settling at Winnipeg in 1967.
After her three children were in school, she took writing classes at the University of Winnipeg and began writing stories and poetry. She joined a local writing group The Penhandlers and, in time wrote local histories, including Ignace: A Saga of the Shield (1979) and Hugging the Meridian: A Manitoba Municipal History, 1881-1981 (1981). For the latter book, she received a Margaret McWilliams Award from the Manitoba Historical Society. She also wrote Running to Beat Hell: A Biography of A. M. (Sandy) Nicholson (1988). She was an active member of the Canadian Authors Association, serving on its executive from 1970 to 2010.
She died at Winnipeg on 4 December 2022.
