Shirley Teresa Dunn

Nun, nurse. hospital administrator.
Born at Winnipeg on 30 December 1908, one of twelve children of Mary Ellen Halpin and William Henry Dunn, after attending St. Mary’s Academy, she entered the House of Providence at Kingston (Ontario) in 1927. Ahe trained as a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing at Camrose (Alberta), studied laboratory technology, then became a certified Hospital Administrator, leading healthcare in several hospitals including Holy Family Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia (1962-1965).
At the St. Vincent de Paul Hospital at Brockville (Ontario), she lead expansion of services (1966-1975). She was temporary administrator of St. Joseph’s Hospital at Ile a La Crosse, and the hospital at LaLoche, Saskatchewan (1977), assisting the Grey Nuns in the serving Chipewyan, Cree and Métis communities, and finally as Local Superior in Holy Family Hospital Convent in Vancouver, BC (1977-1983), where she also provided service and home visits to the sick.
She died at the Providence Motherhouse at Kington, Ontario on 30 August 1993.
