Memorable Manitobans: Wilfrid Joseph “Wilf” Ducharme (1917-1980)Born at Toutes Aides on 29 October 1917, second youngest of six children of Joseph Antonio Ducharme (c1887-1960) and Rosa Rene (?-?), he trained as an engineer at the University of Manitoba (BSc 1950) and University of Toronto. He worked for the Manitoba Department of Health and, from 1957 to 1959, the firm of Louis Ducharme and Associates. In 1959, he established the Surety Construction Company and built several important buildings around Manitoba over the next few years. He was a councillor for the Rural Municipality of Fort Garry (1958-1963). In 1964, he and his family moved to southern California where he worked in real estate, establishing and managing the Contractors Association of Santa Barbara. He died at Carpinteria, California on 17 May 1980. He is commemorated by Ducharme Avenue in Winnipeg. See also:
