Memorable Manitobans: John Leonard Douglas Down (1892-1963)
Storekeeper.
Born in England, he emigrated to Canada and settled at Rounthwaite, Manitoba where he served as postmaster and ran a fuel business. He also operated the local grain elevator. He and wife Ellen Fanny raised seven children, including William Harry Down.
