Memorable Manitobans: Ruby Marian Douglas (1908-1997)Educator. Born at Makinak on 20 April 1908, daughter of Ida Jane Brent (1866-1939) and Alfred Douglas (1867-1945), she attended the Brandon Normal School then began a 46-year career in the classroom, teaching at Springbrook School (1927-1928) and Roseisle School (1928-1929). She was Principal of St. Charles School (1931-1940) and then taught in the St. James School District, including at Britannia School (1955-1956) and Deer Lodge Junior High School (1957-1972), after which she retired. She died unmarried at the Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home in Winnipeg on 19 March 1997 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
