Memorable Manitobans: Howard Leslie “Krug” Crawford (1892-1959)Journalist, athlete. Born and educated in Brandon, he pitched his first pro baseball game for Brandon in the Western Canada League at the age of 16. He abandoned law school in 1915 and joined the 40th Battalion, Canadian Field Artillery. Upon demobilization he received his law degree from the Manitoba Law School in 1919, but instead of practising law he joined the Brandon Sun and spent 40 years there, ending as managing editor.
