Memorable Manitobans: Thomas Dudley Cockerill (1896-1969)

Farmer, municipal official.

Born at Gunton on 17 December 1896, son of Matthew Cockerill (1863-1960) and Annie Mary Rodgers (1867-1934), he resided and farmed in Gunton until moving to Lot 25 in Old Kildonan in the 1950s.

On 25 October 1961, he was elected as councillor for Ward 4 in Old Kildonan and served until the end of 1966. From 1962 to 1966, he was the Chairperson for the Committee on Protection of Persons and Property.

On 3 November 1928, he married Irene Aletta Bailley (1908-1989) at Winnipeg.

He died in Old Kildonan on 7 January 1969 and was buried in the Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery.
