Cecil William Clark

Physician and surgeon.
Born at Oakville on 22 December 1906, son of Dr. W. H. Clark and Margaret Florence Dixon, he graduated from the Manitoba Medical College in 1931. After doing post-graduate work in London and Edinburgh, he returned to Winnipeg in 1936 to establish a surgical practice.
During the Second World War, he joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps and served with the No. 5 Canadian General Hospital in England, Sicily, North Africa, and Italy. He returned to the United Kingdom with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel as chief of surgery with No. 11 Canadian General Hospital. He returned from military duty in August 1945 and was a founding partner of the Manitoba Clinic (1946).
He was also an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Manitoba, Chief of General Surgery and later Chief of the Department of Surgery at the Winnipeg General Hospital, surgeon to the Children's Hospital, a consultant in surgery to the Deer Lodge Hospital, and President of the Society of Clinical Surgeons (Western Division). He retired in 1972.
On 10 September 1935, he married Jean Argue Hunt (1909-2000) at Winnipeg and they had two daughters and two sons. He was a member of the St. Charles Country Club, Manitoba Club, and Winnipeg Winter Club.
He died at the Deer Lodge Centre on 15 December 1996 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
