Memorable Manitobans: Marguerite E. Chown (?-1994)

Nurse, community activist.

A nurse and nursing instructor, she became active in the community following her retirement. An advocate for seniors and the disabeled, she was one of the founders of the Manitoba branch of the Canadian Association for the Mentally Retarded (later known as Association for Community Living). She served as President of the Manitoba Society of Seniors (1986-1988). Her community service was recognized by induction into the Manitoba Order of the Buffalo Hunt (1986) and she received a City of Winnipeg Community Service Award (1985, 1990). She died at Winnipeg on 19 July 1994.
