Memorable Manitobans: John Fayden Campbell (1854-1938)

Hotelier.

Born in Scotland on 2 February 1854, he was proprietor of the Mansion House Hotel (695-697 Main Street, Winnipeg).

He and wife Elizabeth Carmichael (1863-1949) had a son and seven daughters: Mabel Elizabeth Campbell (1886-1982, wife of William Garroway Cairns, daughter-in-law of Henry John Cairns), Ida Mary Campbell (1887-1985, wife of George Wallace Sharp), Beatrice Campbell (1889-?, wife of William Parker Fess), Lillian Annabel Campbell (1892-?, wife of John Cox Weston), Clara Adeline Campbell (1894-?), John Clifford Campbell (1896-?), Myra Eva Campbell (1898-?), and Blanche Victoria Campbell (1900-1985, wife of Leo Charles Degagne). The family lived at 65 West Gate and had a summer cottage at Whytewold Beach. At the time of his death, he was living in Suite 17 of the Florence Apartments.

He died at Winnipeg on 26 August 1938 and was buried in the Brookside Cemetery.
