Memorable Manitobans: Florent Gerard Beaudette (1939-2015)

Civil servant, agronomist, municipal official.

Born at St. Jean-Baptiste on 26 February 1939, he was educated at St. Boniface College, receiving a BA degree in 1958 then studied agriculture at the University of Manitoba. After teaching at Fisher Branch Collegiate for a year (1961-1962), he began working for the federal government, relocating to Ottawa. In 1966, he moved to England followed by France, and finally back to Ottawa in 1971. He left public service in 1975 and returned to St. Jean Baptiste where he worked as an agronomist, retiring in 2004. He served as Reeve for the Rural Municipality of Montcalm (1990-1998). He died at the Boundary Trails Health Centre on 28 July 2015 and was buried in the St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery.
