Memorable Manitobans: Pierre Allary (c1819-1924)Pioneer. He worked for the Hudson’s Bay Company for 15 years. He founded the Parish of Baie St. Paul and was one of the first ferryman on the Assiniboine River, operating his ferry for 30 years. He was married to Genevieve Zastre. They had fourteen children. He lived at St. Eustache for the last 50 years of his life. Known widely as “le vieux Pierre”, he died there on 12 May 1924, survived by 70 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
