Memorable Manitobans: John AbrahamMariner. Little is known of his life except for his service with the Hudson’s Bay Company, mainly in maritime capacities until 1684, when he was briefly appointed governor of Port Nelson. He explored the Churchill River in 1686 and later became a buccaneer preying on English shipping in the St. Lawrence River. More information:
