Historic Sites of Manitoba: St. John’s Anglican Archdeacon’s House (172 Church Avenue, Winnipeg)

This 2½-storey dark red brick and Tyndall stone trimmed residence at the southwest corner of Church Avenue and O’Meara Street (formally McCallum Street) in Winnipeg, measuring 32 feet by 41 feet, was designed by local architect Leonard Percival Kenwrick. It was built in 1907 by contractor John Farguhar at a cost of about $9,000, as a residence for the Archdeacon of the St. John’s Anglican Parish. The first occupant was Robert Phair.

Owned by the church until 1996, it is now a private residence.
