Historic Sites of Manitoba: Roland Curling and Skating Rink (36 South Avenue, Roland, RM of Roland)

This one-storey heavy wood timber and metal paneled building on South Avenue in Roland, in the Rural Municipality of Roland, was designed by Winnipeg architect Edgar Prain and built in 1939 at a cost of about $11,800 as a dual skating and curling rink. It replaced a rink destroyed by fire earlier that year.

The building consisted of a skating rink with an ice surface of 75 feet by 175 feet, and a curling rink with an ice surface of 32 feet by 160 feet. It opened officially on 30 December 1939 at a ceremony attended by MP William Gilbert Weir with 500 people in attendance.
