A war memorial at Newdale in the Municipality of Harrison Park was constructed between 1919 and 1920 in memory of the community’s sons killed in the First World War. Unveiled on 17 December 1920 by Lieutenant Governor James Albert Manning Aikins and Brigadier-General Hugh Marshall Dyer, the monument stands 18 feet high, with a base and die of grey granite, surmounted by a life-size statue of a soldier carved in white marble by Signor Nicolai Rombello of Italy. In 1946 a bronze plaque bearing the names of the fallen of both World Wars was placed on the face of the stone.
