Historic Sites of Manitoba: McKinley Block (1477 Main Street, Winnipeg)

This two-storey wood frame and stucco building on Main Street in Winnipeg, measuring 22 feet by 40 feet, was designed by local architect Leopold Villeroy. It was built in 1907 by day labour for owner William J. McKinley at a cost of about $3,000. In its original configuration, the building contained a single retail space on the main floor and a single residential apartment on the second floor.

At the time of a 2025 site visit, the building has been slightly modified from its original appearance, but the stucco covering on the north side of the building had been removed to expose the original wood frame.
