This site on the south side of Dublin Avenue (formally Notre Dame Avenue) in Winnipeg, served by a spur line of the Canadian Pacific Railway, was commissioned in April 1906 as a manufacturing plant for the Dominion Bridge Company. Originally measuring 70 feet wide by 200 feet long, a metalworking building was constructed by the firm of Davidson Brothers at a cost of about $25,000.
In 1912, a brick addition measuring 194 feet by 480 feet was built by the construction firm of Carter-Halls-Aldinger at a cost of about $50,000, tripling the size of the plant.
